Ports and port connectivity

Backbench debate (separate chamber, no votes)

Jayne Kirkham (Labour Co-op MP for Truro and Falmouth) is using Westminster Hall to debate ports and port connectivity. The debate will examine how well UK ports are connected to the wider transport network and what investment or policy changes are needed to improve port infrastructure and the economic opportunities it supports.

Ports are critical to the UK economy, handling the vast majority of goods trade and supporting thousands of jobs in maritime, logistics, and related sectors. Poor connectivity between ports and inland transport networks constrains trade competitiveness, supply chain efficiency, and regional economic growth — particularly in areas dependent on port activity.
