Independent MP in a politically split seat.

Patrick Spencer's tenure as MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich has been dominated by criminal proceedings against him. In May 2025, he was charged with two counts of sexual assault, allegedly occurring before his election. He pleaded not guilty in June 2025 and is due to stand trial. He lost the Conservative whip and now sits as an Independent — yet has resumed voting, appearing in 398 of 570 recorded divisions.

His voting record is sharply right-of-centre and consistent. He is 100% aligned with pro-business positions and opposes all progressive taxation measures in the data. Most recently, he voted against the government's carbon budget regulations and regulations bringing aviation and shipping within the UK's net-zero framework — three votes in a single day in June 2026 placing him against the majority of Independent MPs on climate action, where he sits at just 38% alignment. He backed the opposition motion against early prisoner release, opposed removing the academy presumption in schools policy, and resisted Lords amendments to the National Security Bill. His stance profile scores 84% on parliamentary scrutiny and 96% on Lords scrutiny, but 0% on the government agenda and 9% on workers' rights.

His last recorded speech was February 2025 — before the charges were filed — covering economy, local government, education, and fiscal policy. Since then, his parliamentary footprint has been votes only, with no committee roles and no debate contributions on record. The news data beyond the criminal case is thin: 16 articles over 90 days, mostly on culture and sport, with neutral scores. Until the trial concludes, the criminal proceedings are the defining fact of his tenure.
