Democratic Unionist Party MP for East Antrim.

Sammy Wilson broke with his DUP colleagues three times in the past 18 months — voting against new media merger rules and national security takeover powers in July 2025, and against a ban on large upfront rent demands in January 2025. The rent vote is the sharpest divergence: the DUP backed the tenant protection measure, but Wilson did not, and he sits notably below his party's average on tenants' rights (67% vs 92%). His recent news coverage carries a negative thread: in late 2024 he apologised after a parliamentary standards investigation found he had failed to declare an interest when tabling questions, and separately admitted an error in a public claim about Sinn Féin, settling a resulting libel case.
At 52% voting participation, Wilson attends well below the Commons average. Where he does vote, he is almost always with his party (99% alignment). His stance profile shows a consistent pattern: firmly anti-tax-increase (100%), pro-business (93%), and supportive of parliamentary scrutiny (94%), but strongly opposed to workers' rights measures (14% aligned) and climate action (25%). His 297 parliamentary contributions span economy and jobs most heavily, followed by defence and energy — the Armed Forces Bill drew several of his recent votes, all backing enhanced provision for service personnel.
Wilson sits on the Environmental Audit Committee, which sits in some tension with a 25% pro-climate-action voting record. His public interventions have focused on Northern Ireland's trading arrangements under the Windsor Framework, WASPI pension compensation, and defence spending. Recent local news coverage is broadly neutral in tone across economy, crime, and environment topics. Data on his full voting record before the current Parliament is limited, so longer-term patterns are harder to establish.
The Rt Hon Sammy Wilson is the Democratic Unionist Party MP for East Antrim, and has been an MP continually since 5 May 2005.
