13 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryNigel Farage's persistent deflection from proper scrutiny won't work. Whether it's support from George or Fiona Cottrell, Christopher Harborne or Sasan Ghandehari - everyone can see the distraction of the Clacton by-election and Farage's incessant scapegoating for what it is.
10 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryIt's vital that we all know who is being lobbied at the heart of government. Thanks to @ethicsandintegrity.bsky.social for their review which sets out bold reforms. As @appgonacrt.bsky.social Chair I'll be working to get those recommendations implemented. ➡️https://eic.independent-commission.uk/
10 Jul 2026Cost of LivingangryMillions of families are choosing between heating and eating. He's complaining about his millions. Farage is on the billionaires' side. I'm on the side of hard working families in Bolton, Westhoughton, Blackrod, and Horwich.
10 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryNigel Farage took £5 million from a crypto billionaire. He kept it secret. Then he spent twenty minutes on camera telling you how hard his life is.
8 Jul 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredMy statement on the police announcement of arrests made today as a result of their investigations in alleged fraud and money laundering at the University of Greater Manchester (Bolton)
7 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryNigel Farage can run, but he can't hide. If he thinks that by resigning he can avoid scrutiny, he's wrong. If he thinks he's done nothing wrong, why is he triggering a by-election? And if he is re-elected, the serious questions about his finances are not going away.
7 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredFollowing the newspaper reports over the weekend in to Farage, yesterday I welcomed the review by Sir Philip Rycroft before asking what protections will be put in place to stop individuals with serious convictions or histories of financial crime from funnelling millions of pounds into our democracy.
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredFinally, it is not for any one MP to determine whether the Member’s Code of Conduct has been breached. That is for the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to independently determine. Suffice to say, this pattern of behaviour is unprecedented in British politics. I am gravely concerned. END
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredMoreover, that register entry records the support as “Purpose of visit: personal meeting”. If Farage’s support from Cottrell has been purely of a personal nature over the many, many years they’ve worked together – then why did Farage register financial support for a personal meeting?
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryOn 14th December 2024 (more than 5 months after the election), Cottrell paid for an internal flight in the US for Farage, to the tune of more than £15,000. This entry was registered late by Farage. Jenrick’s assertion that Cottrell has not supported Farage since the election is wrong.
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredCottrell did support Farage before he became a MP. That’s exactly what the Sunday Times investigation alleges – whether it be security, staffing, housing. But Cottrell has continued to support Farage since the election. Don’t take my word for it. Look here members.parliament.uk/member/5091/...
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryLet’s just take those comments apart piece by piece. Cottrell certainly is an old friend of Farage’s. Farage was with Cottrell in the US on the way back to the UK when Cottrell was stopped and arrested by US law enforcement – an arrest which led to his wire fraud conviction.
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentsarcasticJenrick also claimed on Laura Kuenssberg’s show that; “George Cottrell is an old friend of Nigel Farage’s. He did give support to Nigel before he was a Member of Parliament. He hasn’t done so since he became a Member of Parliament. No rules have been broken whatsoever."
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryThis morning, Robert Jenrick, Reform’s Treasury spokesperson sought to defend Farage by claiming the Cottrell-related matters were before Farage became a MP (and therefore somehow did not need to be declared).
5 Jul 2026Tax & Public Financesangry"...Offshore finance, crypto, money laundering risk...—to my mind, there is only one reason why anyone would court crypto-linked individuals’ donations so aggressively: if they have something to hide.”
5 Jul 2026Otherangry"His mother, Fiona Watson, donated £750,000 to Reform, making her one of its biggest donors at the time. Cottrell has been linked to offshore crypto and gambling networks.
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentmeasured“Cottrell served time in prison in the US after being accused of offering money laundering services on the dark web; he ultimately pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryIn another parliamentary debate on 9th February, I raised Cottrell again; “Now let me speak about George Cottrell, a key Reform fixer. He has acted as a fundraiser for UKIP and the Brexit party and served as chief of staff to the hon. Member for Clacton, who described him as “like a son”.
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentangry"Given that Cottrell has been accused of illegally financing a political party in Montenegro—accusations that he denies—I am deeply concerned about his proximity to Members of this House. It is a great shame that the hon. Member for Clacton is not here to explain the conduct of his right-hand man.”
5 Jul 2026Tax & Public Financesangry"Companies with such little transparency should simply not be able to flood money into our politics, yet they seemingly could do so at the drop of a hat.
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentmeasured"It claims to have offices in London, Montenegro, Switzerland and the US, where it is registered in the secrecy jurisdiction of Delaware.
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentangry"Cottrell’s unlimited company, Geostrategy International, pumps out dubious polling and Reform UK talking points, but it does not file accounts or publish its clients. It is not a member of the relevant trade body and so is not signed up to the polling industry’s ethical codes.
5 Jul 2026Crime & Policingmeasured"He is currently being investigated for his tax affairs by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. He was once described by the hon. Member for Clacton (Nigel Farage) as being “like a son”.
5 Jul 2026Crime & Policingmeasured"Back in 2016, Cottrell was indicted in the US on 21 counts for crimes including money laundering, fraud and blackmail. He served eight months in prison for wire fraud after being caught in an FBI sting offering his services to undercover agents posing as drug traffickers.
5 Jul 2026Defence & Securitymeasured"While there, several local politicians and officials raised with me their concerns about British national George Cottrell, a well-known figure in the crypto world.
5 Jul 2026Defence & Securitymeasured“I have recently returned from a visit to Montenegro with the Foreign Affairs Committee. Our focus has been on looking at misinformation and disinformation, and how it is spread like a cancer by those who wish to undermine our institutions.
5 Jul 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredMore than six months ago, on 11th December last year, I raised my concerns about Cottrell in Westminster Hall, in a debate on foreign interference 👇
5 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentangryHe lives in Tivat, Montenegro where he is known to have flaunted his wealth, including high stakes betting in local casinos, pushing crypto ventures, inserting himself into local politics and setting up a political strategy company (Geostrategy International).
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentangry4. After the Sunday Times’ reporting, today another referral has been made to the Standards Commissioner for Farage’s failure to disclose financial support and benefits in kind provided by convicted fraudster ‘posh’ George Cottrell. Cottrell has assiduously sought to avoid the scrutiny he deserves.
5 Jul 2026MP & Parliamentmeasured3. My colleague Joe Powell MP also wrote to the Standards Commissioner last week asking him to open a third investigation into Farage for failing to register his property interests x.com/josephpowell...
