Labour Party MP in Liberal Democrats-controlled territory.

Mishra's most notable recent actions place him among the Labour rebels on welfare. In July 2025 he voted three times against the government's Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill — opposing cuts to the health top-up for new claimants, backing an amendment to extend protections to people with fluctuating conditions such as Parkinson's and MS, and supporting an inflation-linking clause tabled by John McDonnell. He also broke with Labour in March 2026 to oppose the regulations raising university tuition fees to around £9,535, and in July 2026 he voted against planning regulations — giving him five rebel votes in total. His party loyalty otherwise stands at 98.2%, so these breaks are deliberate and clustered around welfare and cost-of-living concerns rather than a pattern of general dissent.

In parliament he votes in roughly four in five divisions — slightly below the Commons average — and delivers a solid volume of speeches across economy, local government, transport and health. His stance profile marks him as a consistent pro-worker and pro-progressive-taxation MP, though his scores on parliamentary scrutiny and civil liberties sit well below the Labour norm. The sharpest deviations from his party are on welfare: he votes against disability benefit cuts and for welfare protection at roughly 60 percentage points above the Labour average, while his support for welfare reform sits 65 points below it.

One negative story is worth noting: in November 2024 Politico reported he failed to declare Indian donations when tabling written questions to ministers, a breach of parliamentary conduct rules; he subsequently notified the registrar. On the constituency side, news coverage in the past 90 days is broadly neutral and focuses on local government, culture and housing. He sits on the Administration Committee. Voting and speech data run to July 2026.
