1 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZerosarcasticI'm sure @charlotte2153.bsky.social can tell you how sick she is of me saying 'semi-urban population density criteria ' 🤣 5/5
1 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredOn my reading of modern evidence, I am hopeful that this will mean Heysham can be developed but we will have to see what the new criteria says. Nuclear has been brilliant for our community and is needed for energy transition. Win-win to get this right. 4/5
1 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredThose of us who live in Heysham see that it's a bit silly to prevent new nuclear where we currently have nuclear! Having interrogated the criteria, I'm convinced it's not fit for purpose or evidence-informed. The Gov is reviewing it to make sure it's fit and evidence-informed. 3/5
1 Apr 2026Energy & Net Zeromeasured...and not well founded in current evidence or approaches to industrial risk. This SUPDC currently prevents nuclear development in parts of Heysham best suited to new nuclear and actually the current, running, nuclear power stations now don't fit the criteria because of new housing! 2/5
1 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredYes, absolutely. As well as general advocacy through nuclear appg, industry relations, and scrutiny of programme through select committee, I'm doing some detailed work on a very specific regulation called the semi-urban population density criteria (SUPDC) which is from the 60s... 1/5
31 Mar 2026Energy & Net ZerocelebratoryThe clean energy stuff the Government is doing (and has been doing since we got in) is absolutely transformational. If this had been happening more over the preceding 14 years, esp inc nuclear, we'd have ridden the Ukraine crisis better and been much better prepared for this one too.
31 Mar 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredThe inevitable impact of the Iran crisis is, rightly, sparking lots of Parliamentary discussions on the cost of energy. Tory and Ref. position of more oil and gas is ridiculous economically, as I outline in my speech, but also let's not forget the climate imperative! www.facebook.com/share/v/1JKc...
30 Mar 2026Health & NHSangryThe whole fucking point is that people do want to go gently and, imo, they shouldn't be forced otherwise. So that title is gross. I have seen reasoned, understandable, objections to assisted dying that (whilst I disagree) do have reason and kindness on their side. This isn't it.
29 Mar 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredSounds good. The thing that struck me when taking evidence on that sort of flexibility was the need to make it automated, easy and everything interoperable.
26 Mar 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryMy tenuous claim to fame is that Alfred Wainwright, who put together the Coast to Coast, was my great, great Uncle. Nice to see the upgrade.
