24 Apr 2026Health & NHSmeasuredWe currently allow people to die through withdrawal of treatment and starving themselves with a simple mental capacity test. This is much more robust - if you look at the bill and it's processes it's extremely rightly drawn. Terminally ill people are killing themselves NOW with no safeguards..
24 Apr 2026OtherangryChoice and a pain-free death denied to the terminally ill by a few unelected Lords.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredReintroducing it is harder and more prone to chance through the PMB process, that's true. But don't think it would have changed anything else.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentangryThose saying the Lords filibustering the assisted dying bill is about scrutiny ignores both the Commons scrutiny but also that the actions of a few Lords has stopped the rest of the Lords being able to take a view.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredIt gets said a lot but doesn't stand up to even the most basic scrutiny. It had more bill committee time than any Government bill does, multiple debates in the commons, and civil service support for drafting amendments etc.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredI'm not sure what would be different, given it's a small number of Lords. Other big issues of conscience have used the PMB mechanism and members generally prefer the Government not taking a position on matters of conscience when it's not a manifesto issue.
24 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredA small number of unelected Lords should not block a bill which has been through the proper Commons processes.
24 Apr 2026OthermeasuredA small number of Lords are blocking the assisted dying bill from completing its parliamentary journey. The Bill has had a huge amount of scrutiny in the Commons (more than any Government bill) but those opposed in principle are using procedural tactics to block it.
24 Apr 2026Health & NHSempatheticI'm sorry to hear that Chris. I'll do everything I can to make sure we get a safe and compassionate assisted dying law in the UK.
23 Apr 2026Local GovernmentangryNormally when someone dies, as a mark of respect the other parties don't call the by-election but wait for the party of the deceased to do so. In this case, Reform didn't even wait til the funeral had happened to call the election. Really unpleasant behaviour.
23 Apr 2026Health & NHSdefensiveI keep hearing opponents of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) bill saying 'it hasn't had enough scrutiny'. This is just untrue. Over 90 hours in Bill Committee and multiple debates in the chamber. It has had more scrutiny than any Government Bill. That is a fact.
21 Apr 2026OtherangryNat was an absolutely phenomenal campaigner for the assisted dying bill. I know he'd be furious at the small number of peers who, because they are opposed in principle, are blocking a vote in the Lords and overturning the will of the Commons.
16 Apr 2026EducationcelebratoryI am really pleased to see this - I benefited from Erasmus and it's a great way to build inter-country relationships and understanding.
14 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredTotally agree. I responded to the recent IPSA pay consultation with this point. Yes, I work ridiculous hours and need a very wide skillset but I get paid well. What I don't have is a large enough staff budget to do justice to all elements of the job.
14 Apr 2026EducationempatheticIt's a tough job for them, and the food does meet nutritional requirements set out so far but it's sad to see my kid eat variations on pizza and pasta for every meal. My eldest once described the salad as 'a handful of sad lettuce, and a piece each of cucumber and tomato'.
14 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredI'm really pleased to see this - having pushed for something similar in Lancashire for years. I'd also say that we need to be more ambitious for our kids' diets and palates, as well as meeting basic dietary needs. My primary age kid's school menu is uninspiring at best, especially as they're veggie.
12 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentdefensiveThanks for saying this. I tried so hard to do proper replies to campaign messages but there's literally hundreds a month, on top of hundreds of individual policy emails and at least 80 new items of casework. So now they get a 'thanks for getting in touch' letting them know that they've been read.
8 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredAs an addendum, an oppo member who had come into our Select Committee for just one particular Ministerial session said at the end something to the tune of 'blimey, you Labour members didn't give them an easy ride, did you?' and I was like, er, no? We're there to scrutinise!
8 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredA while ago 'the cabinet was asking the PM hard questions' was used as an attack line and, honestly, sometimes I despair.
7 Apr 2026OthermeasuredGood news. I favour lower decibels and limited nights. Balance of freedom and harm. FWIW I bloody love fireworks, although for my second annual fireworks debate my team told me I wasn't allowed to repeat the phrase from my first fireworks debate 'maybe I just like loud bangs in the night' 👀
5 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredThis wouldn't be enough for what I really need - an extra member of staff.
5 Apr 2026MP & Parliamentsarcastic🤦🏼‍♀️ *sighs in MP* Separating your constituency work and your party fundraising really isn't that hard. IPSA provides funding that allows for drop-ins etc (although the postage budget isn't actually enough to invite each household even once a year)
3 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredYes, this is absolutely the case for the majority of MPs of all parties. Through casework especially, we see every sort of life event and situation.
3 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredCurrent parli still isn't fully rep of the country but, depending on measure, closer than for decades, or ever. Certainly the 2024 Labour intake is pretty normal, if skewed middle class professional e.g. I made my second ever student loan repayment upon election, cos I hadn't earnt enough b4.
3 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentangryAs an aside, there's a special place in hell for hospitality customers who utter the phrase 'well, you'll be getting double time today, eh?' at a harassed staff member. No, no they will not.
3 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredYes, I mentioned this at Select Committee a few weeks ago.
3 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredYes, and there will be a balance point at which paying for curtailment is cheaper than the grid or storage changes needed to stop curtailment entirely. We are and should be doing more to use all the energy produced but curtailment will probably be around in some form and that's fine.
3 Apr 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredNormally I'd be all over this but instead I'm spending my time thinking about energy prices 🙁
2 Apr 2026Social CaremeasuredLet me look into this, cheers.
1 Apr 2026Energy & Net Zeromeasured... living near operational stations Heysham 1&2 but can't build a new SMR on the same site.
