11 Jun 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredSocial security payments help those on low wages. They help working people. It’s part of how we make life affordable. For everyone.
10 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritycelebratoryGood news: Farage’s mate Putin is losing in Ukraine. Their playbook is this: Divide us so they can make their billionaire mates richer. But for us, strength comes from unity. Together we will meet this moment, divided we won’t.
9 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredReindustrialising can’t create the good jobs we need. That era is over. If we want everyone to have good jobs, the government has to help create them. Me on @PoliticsJOE.bsky.social
9 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredEveryone has a pet theory of growth. The YIMBYs say we just need to build more. Climate orgs say we just need to get off fossil fuels. Etc. They’re all sort of right. That's the problem. We need to figure out what *maximises* growth. And that's what I do in my Substack.
6 Jun 2026Tax & Public FinancescelebratoryBrilliant piece from @yuanfenyang.bsky.social in the FT. Labour MPs accept the fiscal rules. We get our gilt yields down by getting inflation down. And we get inflation down by investing in energy, housing and transportation to reduce prices t.co/xgHbZnpJsI
4 Jun 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredI’m a British Sikh MP. Like you, I was horrified by Henry Nowak’s death. I utterly condemn his murderer. We should reject the division peddled by Farage, and instead follow the path of national unity and grace. Read more in the Guardian
4 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredWe need to build homes for the next generation and the clean energy to power them. But we can protect and restore our natural spaces too.
2 Jun 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredMaking life affordable and uniting our country. These are the two things we must focus on delivering.
30 May 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryA delicious pint in Beacon Inn in Loughborough for stop number 34 on my constituency pub tour ☀️ I love the pub. They are such are important spaces for our community – see my previous post for more on why!
29 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesangryFarage got a £5m “gift” from his billionaire crypto mate. Now Reform is offering a 14% tax cut to crypto billionaires. The grift is simple: divide people, reward their billionaire mates. We're better than that.
28 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredThe plan: 1) Maximise growth: Raise investment & consumer spending. 2) Cut inflation: Energy bill reductions now, clean energy long-term. 3) Get debt burden down: Higher growth & lower inflation -> lower debt burden All within the fiscal rules. www.cityam.com/jeevun-sandh...
28 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredBritain has been stuck in a vicious economic trap. Low growth. High inflation. Rising debt burden. Every crisis - COVID, Ukraine, Iran - makes it spin faster. Here's how we break out:
28 May 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredMore homes means lower rents over time. More clean energy means lower energy bills. Investment is how we get inflation down in the long-run.
28 May 2026Cost of LivingcelebratoryCheaper days out for your family this summer. While they talk it down, we're getting on with delivering for working families.
27 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredNope, we set up Labour Thinks a few months ago as a space for us MPs to do the deep thinking needed. Labour Together rebranded a few weeks ago. Tbh it's been less than ideal for us ...
27 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredBlair wrote an essay. Like you, I read it immediately. It's a serious bit of work, and deserves a serious response. Here are my takes - the Rights, Wrongs, and Maybes. jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/blairs-ess...
27 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredI’ve helped write budgets in Somaliland at a time of almost famine. That was far tougher than what we face here today. We can get through this moment. Together with the right ideas.
27 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredLow growth → more borrowing. Higher inflation → more borrowing. Directly reducing energy bills helps to solve both. More spending and lower inflation -> less borrowing.
26 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredWorkers spend more of their income than the wealthy. But our nation has been taxing workers *more* and the wealthy less. Wealth as a share of UK GDP has doubled since the Thatcher era. But tax revenue from wealth only rose by 35% over the same period. That's anti-growth.
26 May 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredWe can't build national unity on empty pockets. That's why we need to make life affordable for everyone.
25 May 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredBasically, any demographic adjustment might lose some valuable information imo on one of the dimensions of interest
25 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredThe Income inequality Gini means a lot less in today's world where top-tail inequality is far more important (for example) So think about the phenomenon, and then the measure. No need to get too fancy with the statistics either.
25 May 2026OthermeasuredI wouldn't, but bear with me here. My PhD was on inequality The way I would think about it is this: inequality measures try to reduce an entire distribution to a set of smaller numbers, thereby *always* losing some information So we need different measures depending on what we're interested in
22 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredWe lost the local elections badly. But we can win again in 2029. By making life affordable and uniting the country with *our* story of Britishness. My piece for @labourlist.bsky.social labourlist.org/2026/05/how-...
22 May 2026OthermeasuredWhy do voters turn to the Far Right? 👇 Me on @politicsjoe.bsky.social.
21 May 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredBuild more homes. Build more clean energy. Both raise growth. Both reduce inflation in the long run. That gets the debt burden down. Fiscal responsibility in action.
21 May 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredEveryone having a stake in our nation means making life affordable. For everyone. And that means getting off fossil fuels supplied by dictators, and onto energy that's cleaner and cheaper.
20 May 2026Energy & Net ZerocelebratoryThis is what happens when we directly reduce energy bills. Lower inflation gives the Bank space to cut rates, getting growth rising and borrowing costs falling. Win, win, win
19 May 2026Energy & Net ZerocelebratoryReform want to ban solar farms. I want to build them. Cheaper homegrown energy over fossil fuels sold by Putin’s mate, Farage.
18 May 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredMore borrowing while the Bank is worried about inflation will make things worse. Instead, we can cut inflation directly by reducing the energy cost that's driving it, funded through taxation. And that's exactly what we're doing.
