13 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)celebratoryA moral ideal. Policy Principles of good jobs, common ownership and devolution. And a political vision unites us. That’s what Andy represents. Me on Sky News this morning.
13 Jul 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredThis is a really difficult time for our country: an affordability crisis, a planet that's burning and war in Europe. We're backing Andy to help us meet this moment.
10 Jul 2026OthermeasuredBurnhamism means every person in every place being able to live a good life.
9 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredI’ll be on BBC Newsnight tonight. Chatting about who I nominated to be the next Labour PM
9 Jul 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredI have a confession to make: I'm a fiscal credibility hawk. We only change this country when the numbers make sense. I learnt that in Somaliland, where the choice was pay the soldiers or feed the kids. Substack link: jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/confession...
8 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredGood growth means we all share in it. Me on Abundance Pod.
7 Jul 2026Cost of LivingsarcasticKemi disagrees with the child poverty measure as it “changes if more billionaires come here.” She doesn’t understand the maths. Relative poverty measures incomes compared to the *median* not the *mean*.
7 Jul 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredAnd other benefits are uniquely to do with the fact they're social homes. Lower rents mean far more local spending. The formerly homeless are able to find jobs. Building social homes. Good for people. Good for growth. @thefabians.bsky.social
7 Jul 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredLiving in a stable, secure, good quality home is a basic human need. It also *reduces* costs and *raises* growth. A stable home is one where kids learn more 'cos they're not always moving. A good quality home means healthier people and lower energy bills (the savings are about £1,000 a year).
7 Jul 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredFirst, building homes social homes means more spending in construction. Builders then spend more of their wages in the local economy. Everyone (including the OBR) think this is very good for long-term growth. But then there are the other less obvious benefits ....
7 Jul 2026Housing & Planningcelebratory🏠️ Building social homes is good for people, yes. 📈 But it's also *very* good for growth. The reasons might surprise you 👇
7 Jul 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredIt’s hot, right?🌡️ Climate change is already here. The good news: clean, homegrown energy cuts your bills and protects the planet for the next generation.
3 Jul 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredI’ve worked in finance ministries across the world. That’s why I’m a fiscal credibility hawk.
3 Jul 2026Tax & Public FinancescelebratoryFiscal credibility hawkishness for the win.
2 Jul 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredYoung people face three big challenges: not enough good, non-graduate jobs, a housing crisis, and a punitive tax system. They've been locked out, and we’re letting them back in again.
1 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredBritain is one of the most geographically unequal nations. Here's how we fix it.
30 Jun 2026Tax & Public FinancesmeasuredI'm a fiscal credibility hawk. But there is more we can and will do to change our country - within the fiscal rules.
29 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measured4) Theatres, Galleries, and Parks - Places to go with your mates and places to go on dates. That's a crucial part of economic growth. Get this right, and we can get growth rising without raising inflation. Power's the start. Above is the rest.
29 Jun 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredHere's how we fix it. 1) We hand out power down from London. But we also need to equalise funding too. 2) We need *a lot* more investment going outside London. Big 👍 for local growth funds. 3) Creating good non-graduate jobs esp. outside major cities.
29 Jun 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredWe're the most regionally unequal country in the developed world because we're the most centralised. Power's in London, so is the money. London gets 3x the transport spending per head of the East Midlands. I'll leave that there.
29 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredAndy wants us to get good growth in every postcode. He's right. I've worked on this for a *long* time on this (1/3 of my PhD, think tanks, HMT) So here's how we do it 🧵 Substack link: jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/good-growt...
29 Jun 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredFinally, the real trick is both: 1) Getting inflation down and 2) Getting more money into pockets. That is possible as we've shown with our £150 off energy bills.
29 Jun 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredOn spending, people have far too little money in their pockets. Record numbers reporting that life is unaffordable. Less money for families -> less spending in shops -> less investment
29 Jun 2026Energy & Net ZeromeasuredOn energy. We are dependent on natural gas for our energy. And fossil fuels shot up in price after Putin invaded Ukraine. Prices are shooting up *again( now post-Iran Get off fossil fuels, and we make life more affordable for all
29 Jun 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredOur affordability crisis was decades in the making, and has exploded in recent years. We were hit the worst by the post-Ukraine inflation. But why? Well it has a lot to do with energy and spending ...
26 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredYoung people deserve what previous generations had: the chance to get on in life. That's this Labour government's mission.
25 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredI’m a doctor… …of economics. Here's how we make our economy healthier.
24 Jun 2026Technology & Digitalmeasured📲 Banning social media for under-16s Earlier this year, I asked constituents for their views on banning social media for under-16s. Here’s what they had to say.
22 Jun 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryKeir Starmer resigned today with dignity and grace. It is for us to build on his successes. Making life affordable, defending our nation, and uniting this country with a vision of strength. Together we will meet this moment, divided we won't.
20 Jun 2026TransportempatheticThe train crash near Bedford is deeply sad news. Many in Loughborough, Shepshed, and the Villages use this line regularly. My thoughts are with those involved and their families.
