Liberal Democrats MP for Mid Sussex.

Alison Bennett has built a visible profile as the Lib Dem spokesperson for care and carers, taking the fight for unpaid carers to the floor of the Commons — including raising the issue directly at Prime Minister's Questions with local evidence — and introducing the Respite and Support Bill to push for systemic reform. Beyond social care, she presented a "Save the IB" petition at Downing Street on behalf of Mid Sussex students threatened by cuts to the International Baccalaureate, and publicly challenged the government's short-lived plan to postpone local elections, appearing on GB News before the eventual U-turn. Her recent votes follow the Liberal Democrat line: she backed ending the automatic preference for new academies, opposed planning regulations that would remove elected councillors from decisions on smaller housing developments, and voted against the Immigration and Asylum Bill at Second Reading.
Bennett participates in 72% of votes, slightly below the Commons average, and has not rebelled against the Liberal Democrats once since entering Parliament in 2024. Her voting record shows strong alignment with parliamentary scrutiny (93%), civil liberties (86%), and climate action (85%), while sitting well outside the mainstream on fiscal responsibility (14%) and workers' rights (27%) — both consistent with Lib Dem positioning against Labour and Conservative approaches. Her 313 contributions span 238 debates, with health and social care dominating alongside local government and education.
On assisted dying, she sits notably to the more permissive end of her own party — 17 percentage points more supportive of access than the Lib Dem average. She holds no select committee seat. Recent local press coverage over the past 90 days has been largely neutral in tone, focused on culture, community, and crime stories rather than controversy.
Alison Bennett is the Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Sussex, and has been an MP continually since 4 July 2024. She currently undertakes the role of Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Care and Carers).

“Corridor care reflects a system stretched beyond breaking point by years of underinvestment; staff are exceptional but working in impossible conditions; need investment in capacity…”
“The new one-size-fits-all fee structure is unsustainable for small ADR providers and lacks proper impact assessment or evidence of consultation with trading standards.”
“Emphasised prevention funding gaps and restoration of public health grants; called for wider blood pressure screening, free school meals for poor children, and stroke rehabilitatio…”
“DES campaigners deserve commendation for their bravery in breaking decades of institutional silence on this hidden scandal.”
Bennett holds no select-committee seat this session. New 2024-intake MPs typically wait one term before being appointed.
