11 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryI was delighted to help a constituent secure their Civil Service Pension this week, which they had not yet received. My team and I are here to help with any problems you might have, including issues with pensions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at steve.darling.mp@parliament.uk.
10 Jul 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryWe are fundraising for Devon In Sight! My team, Peter and Owen, and I are racing across Devon. We will be competing against 10 teams to raise money for Devon In Sight, the charity which supports those who are blind and partially (donate using this link: www.justgiving.com/page/race-ac... )
10 Jul 2026Defence & SecurityangryIt is deeply troubling that the Coastguard Agency are planning to cut volunteers' remuneration. I spoke up against this in Westminster this week, and asked the Minister to agree with me that choosing not to compensate these public servants for a task that many of us would find difficult is an insult
10 Jul 2026Health & NHSempatheticDefibrillators in police vehicles save lives. Defibrillation within 3 to 5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates of 50 to 70%. In my debate in Parliament this week I paid tribute to Naomi Rees Issitt who lost her son Jamie after he suffered from a cardiac arrest.
9 Jul 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThis Saturday St Marychurch celebrated Armed Forces day with a service on Fore Street, with over 130 people in attendance. I was delighted to attend and pay my respects to the men and women in the Armed Forces Community. #ArmedForces #Torbay #Torquay #Paignton #torbayweekly #TorbayHour
9 Jul 2026Crime & PolicingcelebratoryAfter a public outcry, I was delighted that the Police responded to my campaign and backed away from the closure of the custody suite in Torquay. Last week I wrote to the Chief Constable of Devon & Cornwall Police Headquarters to ask what investment they are considering so the suite can continue.
8 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)celebratoryTorbay is known as the Premier Resort of the UK, but it is also among the top five locations in England for expertise and engineering skills, with cutting-edge companies including Bay Photonics and Gooch & Housego. For this reason I was pleased to approve the Industrial Training Levy in Parliament.
8 Jul 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryBarton Cricket Club celebrated 100 years with the opening of their new changing rooms this weekend. These were half funded by the community infrastructure levy from planning developers, and half funded by the FA. It was a pleasure to attend the charity cricket match against Torquay United!
7 Jul 2026Health & NHSmeasuredPublic governor elections are taking place this summer for Torbay NHS Foundation Trust. These important voluntary roles help connect the Hospital to local communities, and provide accountability for parts of NHS leadership. You can read more about what’s involved here: tsdft.uk/beourgovernor
7 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentsarcasticWhat would you do with £250,000? Whilst I would spend this money fixing 4,400 pot holes, Nigel Farage has blown it on his vanity project of resigning and then re-standing as an MP. That's why I have submitted a Written Question asking how much by-elections have cost the taxpayer since 2021. #Torbay
6 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredThis week is Youth Employment week. With over a million young people not in employment, education or training, it is more important than ever to address this issue. You can find resources and tools to help young people into employment here: www.youthemployment.org.uk/youth-employ...
5 Jul 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredThe building at 62-70 Victoria Street is finally being demolished. The building has been a state of disrepair for years and in May falling masonry caused widespread road closures. The Liberal Democrats have been calling for the Council to finally sort this out and will be holding them to account.
4 Jul 2026Crime & PolicingmeasuredAntisocial Behaviour in Torbay is deeply concerning. I have been holding regular meetings with senior police commanders and local neighbourhood policing teams and am pleased to report that the Paignton neighbourhood team have successfully obtained two residential partial closure orders.
4 Jul 2026TransportmeasuredPaignton residents deserve a direct route from the town centre to the Hospital, not one that makes you change buses in Torquay. Sign Paignton Councillors' petition for a bus from Paignton Town Centre to Torbay Hospital. www.torbaylibdems.org.uk/campaigns/si... #BusRoute #Bus #Paignton
3 Jul 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThe Coastguard Agency's plans to cut volunteers' remuneration is troubling. I spoke with Lucy from Brixham Coastguard this week and heard how volunteers often work 16 hour days and have a high success rate. I have signed a Parliamentary motion about this: edm.parliament.uk/early-day-mo...
3 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredMany of you will be distressed by the news that the Department for Work and Pensions is closing its Service and Support Centre in Torquay, putting 130 local jobs at risk, with no clear plans to protect those affected. I have have secured an urgent meeting with the Minister on this.
2 Jul 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThis year marks 100 years since adoption became legal. I want to thank my adopted parents Eric and Penny for everything they did for me. I will continue to fight for looked after kids and families that foster and adopt in Parliament.
1 Jul 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measuredThe Labour Government must focus on helping our Hospitality industry by reversing their National Insurance Contribution Hike and reforming business rates. Young people often get their first jobs in hospitality but at the moment there are many difficulties for businesses to hire more people.
1 Jul 2026Defence & SecurityangryThe new Defence Investment Plan is late and drastically underfunded. Funding for £4.7 billion of the £15 billion package hasn't even been identified yet. Our Armed Forces need investment after years of negligence. The Liberal Democrats are calling for defence bonds.
30 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThe following charities and organisations do amazing work in Torbay. I donate my entire councillor's salary to charity and have given to each of these charities since April of this year.
30 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredThe Stand Up Paddle Boarding World Cup last week highlighted our beautiful Bay. It was a pleasure to be back in Torbay making full use of our coastline. We need to preserve our coast, which is why it is disappointing to see the Council drop the nationally recognised Blue Flag Awards Scheme.
30 Jun 2026Cost of LivingempatheticFor my older constituents who are struggling with the rising cost of living, it’s so important to make sure you’re getting all the support you’re entitled to. @Age_UK’s benefits calculator could help you: www.ageuk.org.uk/information-...
29 Jun 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredThis pothole outside the Co-op at Wellswood remains even after I reported it over a year ago. My team member has reported it again and we are calling on the Council to get this fixed! Our streets need to be safe and accessible for pedestrians and motorists. #Potholes #Torbay #Torquay #Paignton
29 Jun 2026Utilities & WaterangryIt is absolutely shocking that the former CEO of South West Water has been awarded a £270,000 bonus after the Cryptosporidium outbreak in Brixham that made more than 140 people unwell. How can South West Water square this after pleading guilty to supplying water unfit for human consumption?

If you have any concerns regarding antisocial behaviour you wish to share please do come along. #Antisocialbehaviour #ASB #Police #Torbay #Torquay #Paignton #torbayweekly
28 Jun 2026EducationmeasuredThe SEND system is failing parents in Torbay. More than 140 constituents have come to me for help in mediating with Children's Services. I have heard of delays of more than six months for parents before hearing from a named SEND caseworker. I have now lodged a formal complaint with the Council
27 Jun 2026Economy & Jobs (General)angryIt is deeply alarming that the Department for Work and Pensions has made the decision to close its Service and Support Centre in Torquay, putting 130 local jobs at risk. I will be raising this directly with the Secretary of State in Parliament at Oral Questions on Monday. #Employment
26 Jun 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryLib Dems won two council seats in Dawlish today. Congratulations to Pat and Gary! It was a pleasure helping these two outstanding community campaigners. The canvassing I helped with echoed what I'm finding on the doorstep in Torbay, that the Conservative vote has collapsed.
25 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryOn Saturday Torbay paid tribute to the British Armed forces community with Torbay Armed Forces Day on Paignton Green. I very much enjoyed being there and showing my support for the men and women of the Armed Forces. I caught up with local commander for the Torbay Cadets Darral Saw.
25 Jun 2026Health & NHScelebratoryThanks to Susie and her team at the Heart Campaign for arranging for Mike Forster to meet with us to discuss his impressive 'Hands Off HRI' campaign which saw off attempts to close Huddersfield Hospital. Torbay Hospital must remain a functioning General Hospital to serve our residents.
