9 Jul 2026TransportmeasuredI hope that the new maritime strategy that Ministers have promised will be here soon with further steps forward. See my full comments on the Governments response to our ports report. 👇 committees.parliament.uk/committee/15...
9 Jul 2026TransportcelebratoryAs an island nation ports are essential to our economy & growth, and I am pleased the Government have accepted several of our recommendations- including around road and rail connectivity.
8 Jul 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredWe need to be doing more to help people get on the housing market- including keyworkers such as police officers, NHS staff and teachers. This means continuing with planning reform, fixing blockages around building safety and construction and building more council & social housing.
8 Jul 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredWhen the Lifetime ISA was introduced in 2017 a £450,000 cap was imposed when buying new properties in London. The cap has not been raised since and this is stopping many of my constituents from being able to benefit from the LISA. I've asked the Government to look at raising or modifying the cap
29 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredAnd hat tip to the Guardian live blog for this quote. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...
29 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredAs an MP the biggest issue in my postbag remains housing; and the multiple other problems that it causes for my constituents. Lots has been done with the Renters Rights Act but there is equally a lot more to do.
29 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredPlanning Reform is a good & needed measure but many developers tell me that the problem remains A.) Financing B.) Delays with the Building Safety Regulator C.) Skills shortage in sector D.) Access to wider infrastructure.
29 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningcelebratoryUnder Keir the Government did rightly fix the rules around right to buy (including blocking it for 30+ years for new social homes) On top of this we need to build more council housing and we need to engage with the policy solutions to boost house-building.
29 Jun 2026Housing & PlanningcelebratoryThese are really welcome comments from Andy about council housing- especially the fact that we are still paying for this policy through the many billions we give to private landlords via the benefits system. Right to buy was designed in a destructive way & glad to see Andy being clear about this.
22 Jun 2026MP & ParliamentempatheticKeir Starmer is a man of decency and integrity, and I am sad to see his announcement today. I wish Keir, his wife Victoria and his children well. See my full statement below 👇
19 Jun 2026TransportempatheticVery concerning to learn about the train crash south of Bedford earlier today; my thoughts are with all those affected, and gratitude to the first responders and emergency services. Transport Committee will look at the inevitable RAIB report on the incident in due course
18 Jun 2026Defence & SecurityangryAmerica's unliteral action triggered an economic crisis & caused the price of fuel to spike; this is having a huge impact both on the UK and especially on countries in Africa & Asia who are being hit even harder. Why did the Conservatives and Reform want us to join this?
18 Jun 2026Defence & SecurityangryPeace in the region is always welcome; but what is shocking about this isn't just how much the US has failed to achieve their aims but the fact that both Reform & the Conservatives wanted the UK to join this offensive action against Iran. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
18 Jun 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThis is the difference that vaccinations make! And why it is so important to push back against efforts to undermine public health and safety. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
15 Jun 2026ImmigrationangryIt is particularly galling for Reform to criticise the Government over immigration when so many of their members are the same Conservatives who broke the system by 1.) Slowing down processing 2.) Signing off on terrible contracts 3.) Refusing to work with our partners in Europe.
15 Jun 2026ImmigrationangryThis is not a one off. When Robert Jenrick was immigration Minister I repeatedly told him about the huge levels of waste and mismanagement in the contracts signed off by the Conservative Government for asylum housing. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
15 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitydefensiveNo that's wrong; I have been doing work on community cohesion, have loudly called out racism both on my own social media & in Parliament and believe that we need further reforms including to stop racism online.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredWe must stand together against those who are trying to divide us. See my full statement below on the recent events in Belfast and the disorder we have witnessed.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThe UK does not allow trade with Russian occupied Crimea. It is clear that Israel use settlements in the West Bank as a way to expand their borders, and to aim to eliminate the prospect of a Palestinian state & a two state solution.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredI was one of the 140 Labour MPs who wrote to the Foreign Secretary calling for a ban on trade with illegal Israeli Settlements in the West Bank. Since I first visited the West Bank in the 1980s I have been shocked at the scale of settler violence against Palestinians labourlist.org/2026/06/over...
8 Jun 2026OthermeasuredI will be writing a further statement on this after I have written back to everyone who has taken the time to write to me about this. It is an issue that I feel strongly about about & one where I have previously made my views and concerns clear to the Government.

8 Jun 2026OthermeasuredThank you to the dozens & dozens of constituents who have emailed me about the EHRC code of practice, and the impact it will have. I have just added my name to EDM 240- which would disapprove the code. edm.parliament.uk/early-day-mo...
5 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredBut this is once again a common theme with Reform. They want to turn the clock backwards and my constituents know what that would mean for people across London.
5 Jun 2026Culture & CommunityempatheticFor many LGBT+ people reading is a chance to read about a shared history, to read about people who have gone through similar experiences (and struggles) and a chance to reach out into History. I have a character limit so I won't even try and list the number of LGBT+ authors who enrich our lives...
5 Jun 2026Culture & CommunityangryReform ran Essex County Council have ordered libraries to stop their important work around equalities- such as promoting Pride. This is extremely narrow minded & is a chilling reminder of Section 28 when local authorities were banned from promoting LGBT rights. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
4 Jun 2026EducationmeasuredSome private schools did themselves no favours by the huge increase in fees which were above inflation & many spent vast sums of this fee money on marketing the school to other parents. Even before the VAT increase I met with parents from a local private school that was closing due to low uptake.
4 Jun 2026EducationmeasuredThe reality too in my constituency is that many parents who could have afforded to send their kids to private school in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s (e.g those with well-paid professional jobs) no longer can due to the huge rise in prices & anyway London's state schools are very good!
4 Jun 2026EducationmeasuredThe strange thing was the constant claims that state schools would be 'swamped' by new arrivals and that class sizes would balloon- which completely ignores the fact that in London class sizes are shrinking esp in primary schools in inner-london.
4 Jun 2026EducationcelebratoryA key stat- which shows that Government Ministers were right to push ahead with this policy & that politicians should be brave, rely on proper data and ignore the noise. It was always clear that ideological opponents of the Government were using selective data.
