10 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryYesterday I nominated @andyburnham.bsky.social to be Leader of the Labour Party and our next Prime Minister. This morning I told @skynewsrss.bsky.social why I was proud to do so 👇
9 Jul 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredI’m in the House of Commons hoping to speak in the debate on banning trade with illegal Israeli settlements. MPs from all parties are powerful and passionate in their speeches calling for the government to get on with a ban.
8 Jul 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredSyria faces massive challenges but it is important for so many reasons that it succeeds. The UK has an important part to play in this. The sense of hope and optimism was striking. This was my first visit to Syria but I am sure that it will not be my last 🇬🇧 🇸🇾
8 Jul 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredLast week I was proud to lead the first UK Parliamentary delegation to Syria since the fall of the Assad regime. We saw some of the destruction left in the suburbs of Damascus by Assad, Putin and their allies. We got a glimpse of the vast recovery effort now underway in Syria.
23 Jun 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredThis morning I spoke to Nick Robinson on Radio 4 Today about Keir Starmer’s resignation, Wes backing Andy, and the hope and optimism of Andy’s campaign
18 Jun 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryGreat to be out campaigning for @andyburnham.bsky.social in Makerfield again today with so many Labour friends and activists. A really positive atmosphere with voters willing us on and stopping to show their support when they saw us in the streets. Let’s do this!
12 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredAs well as the need to properly invest in defence, @alcarns.bsky.social is rightly saying that the UK lags behind others such as Sweden and Finland in our national resilience and preparedness for the threats we face. I said exactly this in Parliament recently. We need to turbo boost this work.
11 Jun 2026OtherangryI spoke to BBC Radio 4 about some of the ways UK charities are funnelling money to illegal Israeli settlements - and getting taxpayer subsidies for doing so. This must end now; the Charity Commission have to act.
10 Jun 2026Defence & SecurityangryThey - and others like them - must be investigated and banned. More in the @theguardian.com here: www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
10 Jun 2026OtherangrySettlements and violent settlers devastate the chance of peace and a two state solution. This is their purpose. Last week I submitted a formal complaint to the Charity Commission about these 32 ‘charities’ who have been funnelling money to the settlements.
10 Jun 2026OtherangryFunding illegal Israeli settlements is not charitable activity. It is extremist activity. Working with Israeli human researchers, I found at least 32 UK charities who have sent £28 million to settlements in recent years. There’s a likely taxpayer subsidy of at least £5 million through Gift Aid.
7 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThe number is now over 140 Labour MPs.
7 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredWe are deeply concerned at the vast rise in violent Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians, and at settlement expansion, which forces Palestinians off their land. The Israeli government itself is clear this is designed to prevent a 2 state solution ever being realised. (2/2)
7 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredTogether with almost 140 fellow Labour MPs, I have written to the Foreign Secretary to call for a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements. Our group includes every Labour select committee chair. It’s time to be clear that settlements have no viable economic future (1/2)
7 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritycelebratoryI recently visited #NATO HQ with the brilliant Munich Security Conference programme I’m on. We met the Deputy Sec Gen amongst others and talked about vital support for Ukraine, the threat from Russia, and the essential defence partnership we have with NATO allies to keep our country safe.
6 Jun 2026Technology & DigitalangryThis is another example of why tough new Government restrictions on social media platforms are so badly needed. I have also written directly to Meta's UK Country Director to ask them to meet me to discuss this issue. The Mirror has written on it here: www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic... (3/3)
6 Jun 2026Technology & DigitalangryThe truth is that this content has no place online. That these algorithms, with ‘safety’ features enabled, serve up this kind of hate-filled propaganda towards young men is appalling. Meta is advertising these features as being something that they’re not. (2/3)
6 Jun 2026Technology & DigitalangryThis is unacceptable. Is a 17 year old boy being pushed to watch antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jewish people after just 11 minutes what Meta considers to be age-appropriate? (1/3)
31 May 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredResults on my website here melanieward.org/online-safet...
31 May 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredFront page of @thecourier.co.uk yesterday for my survey of the online experiences of 13-15 year olds in my constituency. The results are deeply concerning. As almost every parent said, we need much tougher regulation on social media companies including a ban for under 16s.
28 Mar 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryGreat to be out on the doors in Kirkcaldy this morning. Only @scottishlabour.bsky.social can beat the SNP here on 7 May.
