Asked

Communities and Local Government, whether she has had recent discussions with the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the potential impact of locating large solar farms on agricultural land.

Reply

I regularly engage with my Ministerial colleagues in Defra and other Government departments about land use change. The Government are committed to maintaining the existing strong protections that apply to agricultural land to ensure that our mission to deliver clean power by 2030 does not put current levels of food production at risk. Our plans to boost solar deployment do not endanger the UK’s food security. The total area of agricultural land used for solar is very small, and even in the most ambitious scenarios would still occupy less than 1% of the UK’s agricultural land. Each development proposal will continue to be subject to thorough scrutiny, including consideration of land quality and food production.

Communities and Local Government, what steps her Department is taking to tackle antisemitism in the United Kingdom.

Reply

Antisemitism has absolutely no place in our society, and tackling antisemitism is a top priority for this Government. This Government continues to fund the Community Security Trust, supporting their vital work in protecting Jewish communities. This includes providing additional security at Jewish schools, synagogues, and other sites. Making sure that British Jews are not only safe, but also that they feel safe, is one of our top priorities.Antisemitism is a deplorable form of Hate Crime, and the Government are committed to ensuring that everyone is able to worship freely, wear religious clothing and go about their lives in safety and security – irrespective of their background, faith or other characteristic. Tackling Hate Crime will be a key part of this Government's work to tackle divisions and create connections between all communities.
