29 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThis is a major year for Bowls in North Devon, with both Barnstaple and Fremington reaching major club anniversaries. My thanks once again for the invitation to join you all - and for arranging such fantastic weather!
24 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredToday's exhibition sees the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force bring cutting-edge technologies to educate MPs on everything from bomb disposal to survival training, and the very latest battlefield medical advances.
24 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredYesterday I also met with Help For Heroes to learn more about 'The People's Promise': their published recommendations for how we can improve healthcare, financial services and other support given to veterans.
24 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritycelebratoryOn Monday, I sponsored several amendments to the Armed Forces Bill in partnership with the Royal British Legion - covering everything from the rights of troops overseas, to extending the Armed Forces Covenant - and attended the formal flag-raising ceremony with the Military Kids Choir.
24 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThis week is Armed Forces Week in Parliament - when serving personnel, veterans, and forces charities host a big showcase on behalf of our military community.
15 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitycelebratoryThank you to Families in Grief for inviting me to their 'Say Their Name' art exhibition in Barnstaple, with artwork by bereaved young people and their families in collaboration with local artists. This was an amazing project with some incredibly moving pieces. I highly recommend visiting
11 Jun 2026Local GovernmentmeasuredMy recent letter to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency about the decision to remove payments for Coastguard Rescue Officers. In coastal communities like North Devon, these volunteer CROs are a lifeline.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredSomewhere between the government and the Treasury, the very real danger to the UK isn't being taken seriously. We must keep this country safe. If we're going to defend ourselves, it's time for some kind of cross-party effort, with sacrifices on all sides, to find the money.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThe Defence Investment Plan is well overdue, something I've been chasing again and again in Parliament. Healey now confirms it: the financial settlement "falls well short". Too much of the cost has been pushed into the future, when clear thinking and urgent action is needed today.
11 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredShocking news this morning that Defence Secretary John Healey MP - one of the most respected members of the cabinet - has resigned. This should be a giant wake-up call for the Prime Minister.
4 Jun 2026EducationcelebratoryGreat to hear more about the role local Toddler groups do helping prepare children before starting school. They even brought me small stuffed sheep all the way from North Devon - definitely one of the more charming things I've been handed in Westminster!
2 Jun 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredToday, there will be a vote on my amendment to improve armed forces housing in the Armed Forces Bill. Every person serving our country deserves somewhere decent to live. New Clause 13 would make sure that standard applies across all forces housing #armedforces #military #UKPolitics
30 Apr 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredI recently helped a veteran in North Devon win back over £2,700 after the DWP wrongly counted his War Pension as income. This begs the obvious question: if it can happen to one veteran, how many more could be affected, and more worrying still, how many may not even realise.
