17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

Would you say they are secure no matter what happens in the North sea or to UK oil and gas?

Thank you, Chair. I am also a member of GMB. David, let me pick up on some of the issues you talked about earlier around opportunities and investment. You are in the press today talking about the oil and gas price mechanism, which could raise a significant amount of funding. Is that something you are looking for becaus

As part of transition, should we be looking to make those businesses 100% export? Are there ways and how can we try to support that, if there is a long-term decline in UK oil and gas?

17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

I share the Chair’s scepticism about level playing fields and different wordings for how we support or choose not to support. How do we decide what area to focus on and help them with, and what does that level playing field look like? Which playing field is level?

17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

What assumptions are the figures that you have put out this morning based on? If this is something that is in some ways a higher tax, what are the assumptions that say it will raise the funds that you are suggesting it will?

17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

If, say, there is a 20, 30, or 40-year decline in UK oil and gas and therefore less of a domestic market, how do you try to make sure that those businesses are supported? Does it become: those are market forces?

17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

Verity, what impact would a change in policy to either reverse or accelerate the decline in domestic oil and gas production have in the UK, or in UK manufacturing?

17 Jun 2026Energy Security and Net Zero Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 231)

I am about to run out of time. Claire, what is your view of signals that the Government could send or would be sending by either moving to the OGPM or not, or by legislating for a licensing ban or not? Would you have any concerns for you and your workers about the signals that might send?

What do we need to do to support those kinds of things—that kind of diversity?

16 Jun 2026 Cyber Security and Resilience (Network and Information Systems) Bill

As ever, my hon. Friend is correct. How many of us have had some bit of technology break because the firmware is no longer allowed to be updated, meaning that something no longer works, it is no longer supported and it breaks down immediately? To add to that, by its nature, something that is not regularly updated becom

16 Jun 2026 Cyber Security and Resilience (Network and Information Systems) Bill

I would be more than happy to work with the Government on something that will provide specific protections against cellular internet-of-things modules. What assessment has he made of the specific threat of internet-of-things modules, and what protections are there against that in the legislation?

That proves why we need more awareness of the threat that we face. It is not necessarily a case of banning certain components or technologies, but we must be more aware and ensure that the Government have the powers they need to respond where possible.

I refer Members to my registered interest as parliamentary chair of the Campaign for Secure Technology, which I thank for its work in preparing my two amendments as well as my speech. I echo the comments of my hon. Friends the Members for Leeds Central and Headingley (Alex Sobel) and for Newcastle upon Tyne Central and

4 Jun 2026National Farmers’ Union of Scotland

Given that many of the key pressures facing farmers in Scotland, such as food security, input costs and trade policy, are determined on a UK-wide basis, will my right hon. Farmers in my constituency are concerned about tariff suspensions and the Government’s need to strike a balance between quite rightly reducing costs, and protecting and actively encouraging domestic production capacity.
