5 May 2026EnvironmentcelebratoryThe rubbish site in West Dorking has had its permit removed after I complained to the Environment Agency. This has been a blight for Dorking residents for years. Lib Dem councillors have already managed to get the noisiest machines removed. 1/2
1 May 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryDorking Banking Hub will permanently move into the old NatWest building in the next few months. This brings a key high street site back into use and is great news for local businesses and residents. Thank you to Councillor Cooksey and the Dorking BID for your work on this.
1 May 2026EducationangryThe Education Select Committee heard recently that 57% of SEND parents say they’ve been lied to by their local authority on SEND. https://schoolsweek.co.uk/will-local-government-reorganisation-improve-send 2/2
1 May 2026EducationmeasuredI spoke to School’s Week about how the government’s SEND reforms are likely to fail unless they address the appalling organisational culture of local authorities on SEND. 1/2
1 May 2026TransportmeasuredI finally received a response from the Department for Transport, but frustratingly with no commitment to reducing fares for those tickets that increased. I will be meeting the rail minister soon to raise this again. 2/2
1 May 2026TransportmeasuredSome individual train tickets have almost tripled after contactless was introduced, despite the government committing to freezing prices. I raised this with train operating companies, TfL and the government. 1/2
30 Apr 2026Cost of LivingmeasuredI am writing to the government and have spoken to the BBC about this. 2/2
30 Apr 2026Cost of LivingempatheticPeople aren’t receiving their pensions after Capita took over civil service pensions last December. They are struggling to pay bills and don’t hear from Capita about when they’ll receive anything, often spending hours on the phone waiting. 1/2
30 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingempatheticI stand with Jewish communities in Golders Green and across the country and will keep working to challenge antisemitism and all forms of violent extremism wherever they appear. 2/2
30 Apr 2026Crime & PolicingempatheticMy thoughts are with the victims and their families after the horrific attack yesterday in North London. Extreme hate like this has no place in Britain today. 1/2
28 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredRead the Telegraph article here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/19/reeves-in-talks-over-war-bonds-to-fund-defence-spending/ 3/5
28 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredI asked the government if the press is correct in reporting that she is considering issuing these bonds. 2/5
28 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredInvesting in defence bonds is a powerful way to raise economic growth if done correctly. The Chancellor already agrees with me on the value of increasing investment in defence research and development (R&D). 1/5
28 Apr 2026Housing & PlanningmeasuredPark home owners in my constituency tell me they have been pressurised into selling by site owners to collect 10% commission. Many feel the law does not go far enough to protect them from this. This commission doesn’t happen with other home sales and should be abolished.
27 Apr 2026Utilities & WatercelebratoryBetchworth Water Tower is now fixed after I asked SES to put it back in service. This is great news for Box Hill residents. Covered here in Surrey Live: https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/power-cuts-left-box-hill-33824474 .
27 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredAmongst other things on my list were the option of face to face meetings with case officers, rigorous transparency and absolute honesty, especially when things go wrong. 2/2
27 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredSpeaking with SEND parents about what an ethical local authority in East Surrey on SEND in a resource constrained environment might look like. 1/2
24 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredI spoke to the Guardian about how the government must take action over officials in Kyrgyzstan who are allegedly helping Russia evade sanctions. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/apr/23/take-action-over-officials-in-kyrgyzstan-helping-russia-evade-sanctions-mps-and-peers-say
24 Apr 2026Defence & Securitymeasured... which we have experienced since 2008. I have introduced the government to the research of outstanding academics in this space such as Paolo. https://www.thetimes.com/comment/columnists/article/does-defence-spending-boost-the-economy-b36rwjp3f 2/2
24 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThe Times has shared research by Professor Paolo Surico showing how, if defence spending is focused on defence research and development and implemented correctly, it could raise the most effective driver of long term economic growth (R&D) and help end the economic stagnation ... 1/2
24 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredIt could raise our defence spending to 3% of GDP and so, with an unreliable US, protect the free world together with our Commonwealth and European allies. 4/4
24 Apr 2026Economy & Jobs (General)measured... and implemented correctly, it could raise the most effective driver of long term economic growth (R&D) and help finally end the economic stagnation which we have experienced since 2008. 3/4
24 Apr 2026Tax & Public FinancescelebratoryI have introduced the government to the research of outstanding academics in this space such as Paolo Surico. The policy has been adopted by the Liberal Democrats. This could be an important moment for the country because, if the spending is focused on defence research and development ... 2/4
24 Apr 2026Tax & Public FinancescelebratoryThe Sunday Telegraph, The Times and the Daily Mail is reporting that the Chancellor is considering issuing war bonds. I have been urging the Chancellor to do this for almost eighteen months on the Treasury Committee, in meetings with Ministers and speaking in the Chamber. 1/4
23 Apr 2026EducationmeasuredPictured in the photo (left to right) is Louise Lee, the Chief Executive of The Howard Partnership trust and James Baker, the Head of the Howard of Effingham School. 2/2
23 Apr 2026EducationangryIt’s outrageous that Berkley Homes have u-turned on their commitment to build a new Howard school, affecting 100s of children in my constituency. I continue to support the work of the Howard School’s MP, Zöe Franklin, to ask the Government to intervene and challenge Berkley Homes. 1/2
23 Apr 2026Utilities & WatermeasuredThe drains have now been cleared, inspected, and measures put in place to stop tree roots causing further blockages. This should have been resolved sooner, but I’m glad it’s now been fixed. 2/2
23 Apr 2026Utilities & WatermeasuredFlooding into people’s homes in Fetcham has been fixed after local councillors and I pushed Thames Water to act. Blocked drains caused sewage to back up, and residents were ignored for years by Thames Water and Surrey Highways, with both passing blame to each other. 1/2
22 Apr 2026Utilities & WatercelebratoryReally pleased Betchworth Water Tower is back in service, ahead of schedule and after £600k of work by SES. I asked SES to fix the tower after people told me about frequent water outages at a village hall event. Thank you to SES.
21 Apr 2026Defence & SecuritymeasuredThey agreed that the current situation in the Middle East should not be used to finance Putin. 2/2
