With reference to the Government's press notice entitled Shadow fleet set to be interdicted in UK waters in latest blow to Russia, published on 25 March 2026, how many of the Russian shadow fleet vessels under UK sanctions have transited through the English Channel since the US operation to seize tanker Bella 1.

Reply

Deterring and disrupting the Russian shadow fleet, including those subject to sanctions, is a priority for the UK. The UK Government constantly monitors UK waters to ensure the safety of mariners, protect the marine environment and uphold the UK’s national security, which includes monitoring sanctioned tankers.

What was the cost of tree planting as part of delivery of the new A14.

Reply

The cost of the original tree planting on the A14 (between late 2019 and early 2020, delivered under a Development Consent Order) cannot be separated from other planting and landscaping activities, and this is the standard contractual approach. The total cost of all planting and landscaping activities was £8,075,752.

How the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement allocation for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority was derived.

Reply

The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) does not receive the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS), which is made available to eight of England’s largest city regions. Other areas, including the CPCA, receive different funding streams, which from 2026/27 will be consolidated to provide greater flexibility. This funding includes Highways Maintenance, Local Transport Grant and bus funding. Details of this funding was provided to places in December 2025.

What assessment has she made of the potential impact on UK security of the inclusion of BYD Company Limited on the recent update to the “Entities Identified as Chinese Military Companies Operating in the United States in Accordance with Section 1260H of the William M. (“Mac”) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (Public Law 116-283)1".

Reply

As part of the National Security Strategy the Government is implementing new measures to make the UK a harder target for actors who seek to exploit our open, democratic society. This includes bolstering our cyber and economic security defences. For example, the national security powers in the Procurement Act 2023 allow the Government to exclude suppliers from public sector procurement, terminate their public contracts and debar them from future ones. These powers target risk from individual suppliers—not specific countries—and will be used proportionately based on the threat posed.

What assessment she has made of the implications for her policies of the potential future domestic application of the Advanced sustainable fuel technology being used in Formula 1.

Reply

The Government recognises the contribution that advanced sustainable fuels make. Such fuels must deliver significant carbon savings and meet stringent sustainability criteria. Where they meet criteria, advanced sustainable fuels are eligible for support through either the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation or the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Mandate. The Secretary of State will soon be meeting the President and CEO of Formula 1 to learn more about Formula 1’s fuels programme and any potential wider application of that technology alongside electrification in the Government’s strategy to decarbonise transport.

What steps she has taken to update the Air Navigation Order 2016 to support the use of beyond-line-of-sight drones by police forces.

Reply

The are currently no plans to update the Air Navigation Order 2016 in relation to police drone operations because non-military state drone operations such as those undertaken by police forces and performed in the public interest are already exempt from the Basic Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2018/1139). They still must adhere to some key provisions of the ANO to maintain aviation safety for other air users and the public. The Future of Flight programme prioritises the early adoption of drones for the delivery of public services such as the police, health, and fire and rescue.
