I am sure we will ask you more about this in the future once you have completed that pilot. Finally, from me, obviously the Horizon-related convictions were overturned by legislation, by an Act of Parliament. Do you think that the Government should legislate to overturn Capture-related convictions?

Okay. So you are working reactively as requests are made of you. Are you also working proactively to anticipate future requests?

What sort of timescale have you put on that?

I am turning now to the Capture software. What information have you shared with the Criminal Cases Review Commission in relation to Capture? Are you still reviewing your records, and, if so, how much longer will it take before the CCRC has all the information it needs?

I want to be sure that there are not any people outside the 1,002 that may be eligible.

She should have been written to. Under what you have said to us, she would have been included—I am not quite sure in which of these categories, but she would have been written to.

Is this process of writing to these people in this table—the 205, the 25 and the 28—a new process, post Mrs Eaton’s experience? Mrs Eaton was not written to, and therefore the appeal process that you have set out was opaque to her. She could not access that process because she did not get the letter to say that she had

Can you tell us a little bit more about this appeal route? How do potential claimants and people with further information find out about it? How is it publicised?

Q6. The west midlands car industry is world famous, and this Government back our automotive sector. We have a United States trade deal, and when criminals shut down production at Jaguar Land Rover we backed the supply chain—brilliant companies such as J.H. Lavender in my constituency. What a contrast with the hon. Memb

Black Country people are proud and resilient, but 50 years of deindustrialisation and 14 years of Tory austerity have left my borough of Sandwell the fifth most deprived in the country. Does the Minister agree with me that this Government can finally see deprived urban areas—post-industrial areas like mine—and is final

15 Dec 2025 Employment Rights Bill

I wonder if the hon. Gentleman would like to tell the House which of these business groups he disagrees with and that he thinks we should not listen to today, because these are the groups telling us and peers in the other place that we should be voting for the Bill. Does he disagree with the British Chambers of Commerc

15 Dec 2025 Employment Rights Bill

I am sure the Minister is coming on to this in her speech, but it might be worth reiterating, for the benefit of those on the Opposition Benches, that the best way to avoid having to pay compensation for unfair dismissal is to avoid unfairly dismissing someone in the first place.

T4. The west midlands is a key engine of the UK’s manufacturing base. What work is the Minister doing with our West Midlands Mayor to ensure that west midlands companies, especially our small and medium-sized enterprises, benefit from our increased defence spending and our defence industrial strategy?

I absolutely agree with my hon. Friend, as I have done since the first time we worked together, more than 20 years ago. It is interesting to hear the advocacy for welfare reform. Today we have heard a lot about the difficulties with business rates, and I will not rehearse the arguments—they have been well made by my fr
