9 Jul 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryI am proud to have officially nominated Andy Burnham as the next Leader of the Labour Party. He has a strong record of delivery in Greater Manchester, extensive experience working at the top of government, and has the vision needed to unite Labour and the country around his message of hope.
8 Jul 2026Utilities & Waterangry13 serious pollution incidents last year, the same number as the previous year, show Yorkshire Water has learned nothing and changed nothing. If a company cannot show sustained improvement, the public should not be trapped indefinitely as customers of an operator that fails them at every turn.
7 Jul 2026EnvironmentangryReform’s plan to dismantle Bradford’s CAZ clearly puts ideology over the public health of our children. I urge the Council leadership not to recklessly gamble with the quality of the air we breathe and the health of our kids' lungs.
27 Jun 2026Culture & CommunitymeasuredI am Chair of Christians on the Left. We encourage Christians to become Labour candidates and campaign for social justice. With so much division and hate in our political debate at the moment I thought I would share this today. Do join us www.christiansontheleft.org.uk/membership
24 Jun 2026MP & ParliamentangryDisgraceful behaviour from LOTO. Such language is dangerous and has no place in our Parliament.
23 Jun 2026Social CarecelebratoryIt’s time to crack on with delivering our manifesto pledges, including building the National Care Service. I’ve been fighting to improve this system throughout my career, and I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure the new Leader of the Labour Party makes it a top priority.
22 Jun 2026Social CarecelebratoryWe must now take this opportunity to reenergise this government. In particular, I will be working as hard as possible to push for the creation of the National Care Service to be at the top of Labour’s priorities for the rest of this Parliament.
15 Jun 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredI strongly support today’s announcement of a social media ban for under-16s. Just as tobacco is regulated to protect young people, social media platforms must face meaningful accountability. I hope this moment can serve as a catalyst to rethink our relationship with social media more broadly.
11 Jun 2026Health & NHSangryReform’s plan to effectively scrap Bradford’s Clean Air Zone is premature and reckless. Evidence shows the CAZ has improved air quality and cut GP appointments for breathing issues by 600 per month. Scrapping it now would be a public health mistake our children's generation will pay for.
9 Jun 2026Technology & DigitalmeasuredI have called on the government to recognise the impact social media is having on our young people as a public health emergency. We need urgent action to protect our kids online, and to tackle the addictive algorithms the big tech companies use to exploit people of all ages.
3 Jun 2026Health & NHSmeasuredThe health and wellbeing all our amazing unpaid carers must be supported. The government’s Health Bill is a comprehensive piece of legislation and I welcome many of its measures, but we must to go further. Our ambitions must be bold, our delivery must be rapid, and our NHS must be renewed.

2 Jun 2026Local Governmentangry77% of people in Bradford rejected the party that now leads our council. Reform spreads divisiveness by telling people that Britain is broken while having no idea or plan for how to fix it. Our city deserves better, and I will be hard at work in the coming months to hold them to account.
30 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredThe local elections were the loudest wake-up call we could have received. If we want voters to have faith in politics again, we need a system that can truly reflect their views. I call on all MPs to show that we are ready to be much more radical in reforming our elections.
27 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryThe old way of politics is finished. I’m proud to be one of the MPs backing the introduction of a proportional representation system. I’ve been campaigning for this for over 30 years, but the need for a system that makes every vote matter is more urgent than ever.
25 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredI have written to the leader of Reform UK to express my serious concerns over the historic social media activity of his party's leader on Bradford Council.
20 May 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryProud to have put my name to this. Two party politics is over and we need a new electoral system that reflects that reality👇
19 May 2026Utilities & WatermeasuredWe CANNOT let private water companies profit from polluting our rivers. I welcome the Clean Water Bill, which will take forward much of the reform the sector needs. But I am concerned that, without addressing the sector's financial failings, we will only be perpetuating a broken system.
14 May 2026Utilities & WatermeasuredClean rivers, fair bills and a water system run in the public interest should not be too much to ask for. It’s time for the government to be radical and build a model with fairness, accountability, and environmental protection at its core. It’s time to take back control of our water.
13 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredAs we begin a new session of Parliament, I am urging this government to be much bolder and more ambitious. Those on the Front Bench must now ensure that, as the bills set out by the King today are introduced, they go as far and as fast as possible to deliver the change we promised.

12 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredIf we want to rebuild trust with voters, we need an electoral system that reflects the reality of UK politics in 2026. Last week’s election results sent a clear message - and I absolutely accept that. But they also made it clearer than ever that first-past-the-post is no longer fit for purpose.
10 May 2026MP & ParliamentmeasuredI am calling on the Prime Minister to set out a clear timetable for a change of leadership. The PM is a good man who only wants the best for our country, but I believe it is time for him to step down in an orderly fashion.
29 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryI’m proud of what this Labour Government has achieved in its first parliamentary term. Today, I asked the Prime Minister what his message is to voters in my constituency ahead of next month's local elections.
29 Apr 2026Jobs & EmploymentempatheticToday, we remember those who have died from workplace injury, illness or disease. And we reaffirm our commitment to keeping their memories alive and continuing the fight for better conditions and stronger protections for the workers of today and the future.
28 Apr 2026Local GovernmentcelebratoryThis election on May 7th could be the most consequential local decision in decades. This is your chance to support a team that will stand with you and restore pride in Bradford. Labour will build a stronger Bradford, building on past achievements and delivering change across the district.
20 Apr 2026Social CaremeasuredAs the anniversary of the Allowance approaches, we have a moral obligation to do better. Carers deserve a system that recognises the enormous contribution they make and allows them to live with dignity and financial security. Nothing less than a fundamental reform of Carer’s Allowance is needed.
17 Apr 2026Social CareangryThe Carer’s Allowance Overpayment Scandal is a stain on the British State's record. Over years, the DWP penalised thousands of unpaid carers who unintentionally earned above the limit. I am calling on the government to overhaul the system to ensure carers can live with dignity and security.
15 Apr 2026MP & ParliamentcelebratoryWe are winning the argument and support for a more representative voting system in Westminster.
13 Apr 2026Social CaremeasuredIt is a huge step for carers that the government has started the reassessment process for Carers Allowance overpayments. This marks the beginning of rectifying past injustices where hardworking unpaid family carers were penalised by DWP for being overpaid through no fault of their own.
