17 Jan 2025Licensing Hours Extension Bill

I absolutely agree with my hon. Friend and thank him for that intervention. I get the feeling we are going to hear a lot of pub names today. I named just a few of the 78 pubs that span my constituency. I will not comment on how many of them I have personally visited, possibly more than once. Hospitality is also vital t

17 Jan 2025Licensing Hours Extension Bill

I agree 100% with the right hon. Member. What he raises is what the Bill seeks to deal with, basically. I join him in celebrating the reopening of the pub in the area where he lives. There have been times when the Government have not been able to extend licensing hours for significant occasions, because the required se

Into Ireland as well.

You are absolutely right. In Wrexham, we have the enterprise zone and the town fund, and we need to be able to spread those benefits down the coast, as well as the visitor economy linked into Manchester and Liverpool and places like that, to get those people into Wales and link it up much better.

Thank you. That is really good to hear. I have been really pleased with some of the discussions that I have been having. Particularly in north-east Wales, north-west England and north Wales, there is some fantastic co-operation already going on, and what you have said will, hopefully, build on that and bring that more

Thank you both for being here. It is great to see you here. I wanted to ask about rail infrastructure. Secretary of State, in your opening statement, I noted that you mentioned the historical underfunding of rail infrastructure in Wales and the complex structures around that in terms of separation of track and rolling

I will just declare that I am the chair of the newly formed Growth Track 360 group.

18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

Mr Parr, how do Welsh flood defences compare with rest of the UK?

18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

Mr Turner, does Wales experience more severe flooding than the rest of the UK, and if so, why?

I will move straight on to my next question.

18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

On that line, should we explore—through media or something—a higher profile for flood warnings?

14
18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

On the flood warning side, are we reaching all the people we need to? We all see the weather forecasts on television, on our apps and things like that, so they are quite high profile. How would you evaluate whether the systems from the flood warning side are reaching the people that they need to, linking to what you ha

18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

Good morning. Mr Parr, for clarity, what is the purpose of two organisations—yours and the Met Office—both issuing weather warnings during severe weather? In a previous answer, Mr Brown mentioned warning fatigue. It would be good to understand the purpose of all these warnings going out.

Mr Turner, as an agency that is funded by both the UK and Welsh Governments, how do you co-operate with Natural Resources Wales and local authorities in Wales?

28
18 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 549)

Is the relationship with local authorities good across the board, or is it variable across Wales?

12 Dec 2024Armed Forces Commissioner Bill (Fourth sitting)

As an MP who represents a constituency with an active barracks and many veterans, I totally agree that this is a serious matter, but what does it have to do with the Bill, and is the wording of the new clause not in danger of affecting the independence of the Armed Forces Commissioner, and their right to set how they w

It is just a very quick one. You have probably covered a similar subject. In both panels today, we have heard about lots of challenges, but there is a lot of good stuff happening as well in different places. I am just interested in the mechanism for how best practice is shared. Is there a formal mechanism or is it info

11 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 513)

Excellent. Mr Barrow, and possibly Ms Hibbs: how comparable is the healthcare provision at HMP Parc to that which is available in the community and across prisons of comparable size? You have touched on that already, but I would be interested if you could expand on it.

11 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 513)

I am interested in looking at intergovernmental relations. Can you talk us through what challenges or opportunities you have found in delivering the justice system in a devolved context?

29
11 Dec 2024Welsh Affairs Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 513)

May I explore the health issue a little bit more, recognising the caveats that you have mentioned? My first question is to Mr Styles and Mr Brockington. Obviously prisoners are not sentenced to poorer health outcomes. Have there been instances in which men at HMP Parc have not been able to access the healthcare service
