Won by Lab in its first election in 2024. Covers Southend-on-Sea, Rochford and Great Wakering. Population 91,412.

All five of Bayo Alaba's rebel votes came on the same day -- June 2025's Report Stage of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill -- and they reveal a consistent position: he backed amendments to close the loophole that would allow voluntary stopping of eating and drinking (VSED) to qualify someone as terminally ill under the bill. His votes cut against the Labour majority on several of these amendments, suggesting a more cautious approach to assisted dying eligibility criteria rather than outright opposition to the bill. Beyond Parliament, he has been visible locally -- championing a new health centre in Southend and organising a community funding fair in April 2026 -- though much of the surrounding press coverage, particularly on crime, scores close to neutral.

At 73% participation, Alaba votes somewhat below the Commons average. When he does vote, he is a 97.5% party-line MP. His stance profile shows strong alignment with workers' rights and progressive taxation, but notably low scores on pro-business, parliamentary scrutiny, and civil liberties measures -- the last a significant 23 percentage points below his own party's average. His 89 contributions span economy and jobs, local government, health, and defence, with a notable lean toward NHS funding concerns relative to Labour colleagues. He sits on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, though culture topics feature less prominently in his speeches than economic and health themes.
