Created in the 2023 boundary review, replacing Totnes.

Apr 2026

A new constituency created in the 2023 boundary review. Won by LD in its first election in 2024. Covers Brixham, Paignton and Totnes. Population 99,759, notably older (median age 52 vs 41 nationally). Recorded crime is 46% below the national average. Median income £25K (below average).

One of the more active constituency campaigners in the 2024 intake, Caroline Voaden has spent recent months fighting a series of local battles that have broken into the national news. She secured a Prime Minister's Questions slot on coastal erosion along the Slapton Line, launched a petition that gathered over 40,000 signatures, and challenged ministers directly on flood relief funding after Torcross was excluded from a government cash allocation. She has also pushed back on bank branch closures in Devon, securing a parliamentary debate and meeting Treasury ministers, and raised the pelvic mesh scandal with the Prime Minister. On votes, she sided with the Lords against the government on April 15th -- opposing Labour's bid to overturn Lords amendments on both the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill and the Pension Schemes Bill, particularly resisting government powers to direct how private pension funds invest savers' money.

Her voting participation sits at 68%, below the Commons average, though her 349 contributions across 207 debates since 2024 suggests she is more active in the chamber than that figure implies. She votes 100% in line with Liberal Democrat positions -- no rebel votes on record. Her stance profile shows strong alignment with Lords and parliamentary scrutiny (96% and 95% respectively) and climate action (86%), while she diverges notably from her party average on armed forces welfare (-32 percentage points below the Lib Dem norm).
