Isle of Wight East

Created in the 2023 boundary review, replacing Isle of Wight.

Dispatch
Apr 2026

A new constituency created in the 2023 boundary review. Won by Con in its first election in 2024 by 9.8%. Covers Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin. Population 69,621, notably older (median age 53 vs 41 nationally). Recorded crime is 35% below the national average. Median income £24K (below average).

Robertson has made ferry pricing reform one of his most visible causes, introducing legislation to tackle what he calls "rip-off prices" for Isle of Wight residents -- an issue that has earned him two BBC features and reflects the unique transport dependency of his constituency. He has also broken Conservative party lines twice on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, voting for its Second and Third Readings despite his party opposing both, making public health an area where he is willing to diverge from the whip. More recently, he has been active in local economic regeneration, convening leaders around the Sandown regeneration project and organising an East Wight jobs fair in April 2026.

At 73% voting participation -- slightly below the Commons average -- Robertson is not among the most active division-lobby MPs, but his 99% party alignment elsewhere marks him as a reliable Conservative vote on nearly everything outside tobacco and vaping. He consistently opposes tax increases and government budget measures, and his speeches cluster heavily around economy and jobs (16 debates), social care (6), and local government (6). He also sided with the Lords' proposed victim protections in the Victims and Courts Bill, and backed opposition motions on defence and North Sea oil and gas.
