A safe Lab seat, won with 53% of the vote in 2024. Centred on Hillingdon. Population 124,840, notably young (median age 35 vs 41 nationally), a majority-minority constituency. Recorded crime is 133% above the national average.

One of Labour's most consistent rebels, John McDonnell has broken with his party five times since mid-March -- opposing the tuition fee rise, resisting the Crime and Policing Bill's handling of Lords civil liberties amendments, and most recently voting against government motions on the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill. These rebellions follow his suspension and reinstatement to the Labour whip in September 2025, after which he has shown no sign of moderating his independence. His 92.8% party alignment figure masks significant divergence on key issues: he sits 88 percentage points above his party average on disability benefits protection and 52 points above on civil liberties -- placing him firmly on the left wing of the parliamentary Labour Party.

At 86% voting participation -- broadly in line with Commons averages -- McDonnell is an active but not hyperactive parliamentary presence, having made 223 contributions across 140 debates. His speeches cluster around social care, defence, the economy, and cost-of-living pressures. He votes strongly for workers' rights (90%) and progressive taxation (97%), but scores just 12% on pro-business measures and only 4% on parliamentary scrutiny votes -- reflecting consistent support for government power when it aligns with his priorities, and resistance when it doesn't. His opposition to welfare reform puts him 65 points below his party average on that measure.
