Type 1 diabetes screening (children)

MP proposes a new law (usually symbolic)

This Ten Minute Rule Motion calls for mandatory screening of children for Type 1 diabetes. The motion seeks to raise awareness of the need for early detection and diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes in children, potentially through school-based or NHS screening programmes, to prevent serious complications and improve health outcomes.

Type 1 diabetes affects thousands of UK children and early diagnosis is critical to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening complication. Implementing screening could save lives and reduce emergency hospital admissions, affecting NHS resources and families across the country.
