27 Feb 2025 Women’s Health

Finally, for what we think is her first outing as a Minister in Westminster Hall—although she is a veteran of the Chamber already— I call Ashley Dalton.

Everyone who wants to speak should be bobbing, because we will be calculating the time limit depending on how many there are.

My question is for the three athletes. It is interesting that everyone seems to have had a big swerve in what they were doing. You were going to be a sprinter, now you do bobsleigh; you went out then in; and you were going to be QPR and now you are a very famous Paralympian. Sorry, you were a Gladiator as well—all thes

The Prime Minister’s statement hits the nail on the head, unlike the rantings of J. D. Vance on European freedom of speech at the Munich security conference. I know the statement will be particularly welcome at the Ealing ex-servicemen’s club, so will the Prime Minister recommit to our veterans, to the Organisation for

Alistair, do you have anything to add, and on the disability point as well?

On the football point, I have heard locally, anecdotally, Ealing hockey club, where I represent, are finding fewer places where they can play because the FA are putting lots of money into local facilities and they are replacing it all with astroturf, which doesn’t work for hockey. You mentioned football being not a pri

I have a last question for Ali. There are several organisations delivering the same objectives to the same hard-to-reach audiences—LYG, London Sport, London Youth Trust, Access Sports, StreetGames. There is a whole list of them: Chance to Shine, AC Cricket, and RFU has a thing as well. Are they all fishing from the sam

Research shows that 70% of women—as Jo said—drop out in the end because of various things. It might be body-image concerns or they would rather be in all-girls training. Georgia Bell is another of these happy accidents. HHHer dad is my constituent and he texted and said that all day at school she talked about beating t

You had supportive parents who can drive you around the country or whatever. A lot of my constituents are very time-poor and have multiple jobs. Those things help. What else would help?

Do you think that the UK has the right balance between independently owned studios and those that are US-owned or leased? We were at Warner Bros. the other day—the Harry Potter one. It was all very nice, but it is headquartered in California.

28 Jan 2025Airport Expansion

I am old enough to have been there the last time this question was voted on. In the spirit of Gordon Brown and his tests over the euro, we applied tests of our own on capacity, carbon commitments, minimising noise and environmental impacts, and ensuring benefits for the whole UK. Can the Minister tell me whether those

Brilliant, thanks—so no overlooking outer London from now on, I hope. I can tell you that for “Barbie”, the Dua Lipa pop video scene was filmed in North Acton.

The company that went under said it was more due to the American strike than to a particular contract, but contract changes like that do not help small companies and few suppliers.

Are the Government confident that the hoped-for increase in independent film production will be catered for by our existing infrastructure, or will you incentivise new studios? It feels as it everything is expanding. Is it a case of build it and they will come, or are we going to reach a saturation point?

The previous Government did that, not us.

Leavesden is a big ecosystem, so they can do it all in-house when that goes. I want to make a little plea. Chris, I know you said that it feels in the Rhondda that everything is in London or the south-east or, at best, Cardiff. Outer London is not the same as the streets paved with gold in central London. As a constitu

On our trip last week, we found out something that seems a bit sad. There are other things on the site of Ealing Studios. There is a make-up school, the MetFilm school—lots of other stuff going on and they all feed into one another. I know that the Tour de France does not sound like high-end TV, but it is something goi

It does feel as if everyone is in expansion mode. I think there is a big thing coming in Barking. They are expanding where we were last week. I think at Ealing Studios—with the longest continuous filmmaking—the site dates from 1902, and it has been making talkies since 1931.

Well, Ealing thrives. It is doubling, I think. I went to see the plans. I think an earlier extant thing was dumped. It was going to be on CGI, but instead they want more and more stages.

Yes, we have seen that as well.
