Trade deals.

18 Dec 2024Post Office Redress and Funding

My hon. Friend rightly said that there is an urgent need to speed up the redress process. What we know is that while £500 million has been paid out in claims, £267 million has been spent on lawyers. Nigel Railton told us that between 80% and 85% of all claims are simple cases, so does my hon. Friend agree that there is

Ms Smith, I see that you are at the TUC and responsible for insight into international trade unions. Is that right? That was in the description that I saw.

For example, Amazon obviously has sites in other countries, but it would be interesting to know how their legislation compares and how they insist on that legislation in France or Germany for Amazon sites.

Mr Morgan, you said quite categorically that transparency is important in Amazon as a culture. Can you confirm when the 2022 health and safety data was published? Secondly, do you actually provide performance targets for health and safety within your facilities for employees to see, so that they know what their perform

I understand, but I am going back to the point that you earnestly made: you said that Amazon is a very transparent organisation. I am not hearing that in your reply.

Do you publish it in your facilities for employees’ visibility?

But you could come back to us, couldn’t you?

17 Dec 2024Business and Trade Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 370)

What do you think about the changes that are being introduced, other than the ones you have already described? If you had been faced with the challenge of this two-year deal a year and a half ago, what impact would the changes in the Employment Rights Bill have had on the negotiations? Would you have had a similarly su

My apologies. I guess the simple question, when it comes to access, is whether you think the Employment Rights Bill is comparable with other countries such as France and Germany. Do you have a view on that?

It is good to see you, and it is pleasant to hear how good industrial relations can be. I have a question for Ms Fairbank. A lot of my constituents are very happy about the 11% pay award that will be made over two years. How effective was the existing legislative framework for collective bargaining in helping you to de

But Minister Doughty, I would suggest that trained eyes, which I do not have, looking at this evidence would be able to determine that it was intentional to take out that residential building, or to destroy that farm or whatever, because you can tell by the nature of the debris that is left behind, or because of the na

10 Dec 2024Business and Trade Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 548)

I understand. The Government stated in the High Court that a team within FCDO had reached the conclusion that there was insufficient information to decide either way in 411 of 413 incidents against international humanitarian law that they considered. That is 99.5% of all cases; the Government have found only two to cha

We just talked at some length about the use of RAF spy planes, so it seems that we have some information. It might be in a different Department, but there is information available to the UK Government. What other sources are you using to help you in that determination of the 411 incidents? I am thinking of open-source

I just want to go back to other licences. If the use of earth-moving or ground-clearing equipment, such as bulldozers and diggers and so on, were shown to be used to be clearing farmland that could be producing foods for the people of Gaza to live off, and those products were being supplied by UK companies, would that

The intent though, surely, is that the IDF wants to raze Gaza. The Israeli ambassador to the UK even went on record and said, “What did Britain do to Dresden?” Therefore, the logic of that is that they want to flatten and destroy Gaza. That is not what we support, is it?

28 Nov 2024 UK Leadership on Sudan

I commend my right hon. Friend’s statement, as well as the work done by the Foreign Secretary at the United Nations, despite the failure of the resolution. Eleven million displaced people is a staggering number; some 2 million have gone to neighbouring countries and, specifically, 1 million have been displaced to Egypt

I withdraw it, Mr Speaker. Thank you. I urge the Government to introduce more flexibility in the annual targets from 2024 to 2029, introduce consumer incentives, and consider redirecting any penalties towards EV charging infrastructure, not to Chinese Government car companies.
