1 Sept 2025 Violence against Women and Girls: Pornography Prostitution

I beg to move, That this House has considered the impact of pornography prostitution on violence against women and girls. It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Sir Desmond. I begin by thanking two organisations that have been hugely helpful in preparing for today’s debate: UK Feminista, which provides the

I agree. I think that age verification is hugely important in tackling children’s exposure to pornography. It is not just on those websites; it is found on mainstream websites as well, and I think that is something that we need to look at in the next regulations under the Online Safety Act 2023. As I said, OnlyFans is

I completely agree. I hope—and this is a point that I am sure the Minister will respond to later in the debate—that there is a section within the strategy to address these issues. That could possibly be advanced as a result of collaboration between the Home Office and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technolo

Again, I agree with my hon. Friend’s point. I am delighted that the Government have brought forward plans to ban strangulation in pornography, but there is a whole host of behaviours within pornography that we know affect real-life abuse.

Let me take the opportunity to congratulate my hon. Friend on the work that she did with other members of the APPG to get the Government to make that commitment around strangulation. Yes, I think it should extend to those categories as well. We have to tackle pornography that normalises and glamourises child abuse. It

We have recently seen a step forward in the age verification process but, as we know, parents cannot be omnipresent, particularly online. Companies such as Facebook, Meta and Instagram are allowing pornographic content to be pushed and used within algorithms, and it is completely unforgivable. Yes, I completely agree w

What my hon. Friend describes is the Nordic model, which I fully support and hope to see implemented in this country some time in the future. Ash Regan, a Member of the Scottish Parliament, brought forward a private Member’s Bill there that made a serious attempt at trying to implement that way of doing things. We shou

6 Jul 2025Knife Crime

Six weeks ago, Kayden Moy, a 16-year-old boy from East Kilbride in my constituency, was stabbed to death, leaving his family bereft and a community—my community—in grief. Since Kayden’s tragic death, I have received multiple videos and images of local youths posing while wielding machetes in their own homes, but the po

What would the output or the outcome of that be? Caroline O’Connor: The outcome would be around the person’s wellbeing and improved wellbeing. We have one KPI that is first-time resolution on a call and we score extremely well on that. We score well on client satisfaction, resolving people’s issues with domestic violen

Can you describe, then, the nature of what you feel you are providing that is not recorded in the KPIs? You talked about the complexity of the problems, but what does that actually look like in practice? What KPI would you like to see that reflects the service that you are delivering? Caroline O’Connor: We provide a mo

I think what you are saying is that with the KPIs and the service that you provide, the KPIs only really look at the quantitative nature of what you do rather than the qualitative nature. I think you mentioned that. I just wanted to give you an opportunity to build on what you just said. What service do you believe tha

There are no KPIs around satisfaction, then? Sorry, I missed what you had said before about satisfaction and resolution. Caroline O’Connor: KPI 9 is the quality of service given, and that is based on the quality assurance system that Julia can speak in more detail about. That is the only quality KPI.

22 Jun 2025 UK Modern Industrial Strategy

I welcome this ambitious industrial strategy and commend the Secretary of State on the long-term thinking, which is something we did not see under the previous Government. East Kilbride in my constituency, Scotland’s first new town, was born out of an effective post-war industrial strategy, but over recent years my con

Can I ask one more question on a totally different topic? There has been a lot of discussion about online grooming, and we all know about the surge in misogyny online. Are you confident that DSIT is doing everything that it can to tackle the pipeline of abuse of women, and are you working closely with it?

Can you just be more specific about what quantitative data you collect or are given on perpetrators and victims specifically? Can you give me a sense of how you collect that data and how you understand what is happening at a local level?

I am not asking for 100% confidence, but are you are you relatively confident that you know where these people are?
