2 Jul 2025Defence Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 973)

Based on our initial findings, one of the issues that I think we will want to take into the defence investment plan is having the right balance between infrastructure, technology and people to ensure that the security of our built estate is in line with our risk appetite.

I am responsible for setting the security policy. The allocation of resources to meet the parameters and the requirements set out in that policy are a matter for the four areas of the Department, depending on who owns the estate. In the example of Brize Norton, that is an issue for Air Command reporting into the MSHQ.

That is not the conversation that we had this morning. As Ministers have made clear, we launched an immediate review of some of our security issues around the built estate, particularly in the UK. The first phase of that review reported to me, as the security policy owner, and to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.

For security of our built estate, the security policy—the parameters within which the Department operates—is owned by a team that reports to me within the Department of State.

Well, you can use resource to mitigate the impact as well as the likelihood.

It is about likelihood, consequences and risk appetite. That risk appetite becomes an important input into investment decisions through the defence investment plan about the sequencing of investments that we are making.

25 Jun 2025 Business of the House

On my recent visit to Greenways primary academy in Stockton Brook, pupils were busy decorating plates kindly donated by the brilliant Steelite, showing off the artistic flair for which our creative city of Stoke-on-Trent is known. I learned during my visit that more than 70 children are now attending the school’s brill

It is no surprise that Stoke-on-Trent’s bus service improvement plan is among the best in the country. Thanks to funding from this Labour Government, dozens of new services have been delivered, such as the 36, connecting Kidsgrove to Hanley and Meir, and the 501, helping people get to Wolstanton retail park. 22 Jun 2025 UK Modern Industrial Strategy

I welcome this incredibly positive industrial strategy that will help us to harness Britain’s potential. The strategy rightly recognises that Stoke-on-Trent has been at the heart of the ceramics industry for centuries. Therefore, will the Secretary of State outline what the industrial strategy means for both our tradit

18 Jun 2025 Business of the House

As the Leader of the House knows, I have consistently raised in this place the support that our ceramics industry needs. This week, however, I come bearing good news from Stoke-on-Trent. Our iconic Moorcroft Pottery, adored the world over, has been saved from liquidation following its acquisition by Will Moorcroft, the

17 Jun 2025 Post-industrial Towns

On the point of skills, there is a risk with non-mayoral areas that we do not get the same level of investment as goes into city mayoral areas. Does my hon. Friend agree that it is important that we see that money flow into all our communities across the United Kingdom?

16 Jun 2025Public Accounts Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 893)

Let me give you my level of understanding of the issue, and then the DG finance can tell you what the answer is. The real issue here is getting to the bottom of the ownership of the estate. As Major General Gordon has said, there is, built up over 100 years, estate that has been donated, estate that the Department has
