3 Sept 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1249)

Kat, can I come to you briefly? Are there any interactions outside sexual health services that could be used—or used more widely—to help monitor and control STIs? For example, should STI screening be a routine offer at abortion clinics?

I have a very quick question on DoxyPEP. Individuals are using this as a preventative if they think they may have been exposed. If someone is using it multiple times, is there any evidence that they could start to become resistant to the antibiotic and that it therefore stops serving its purpose?

Not syphilis, sorry.

3 Sept 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1249)

I am going to come to you, Kate. The STI Prioritisation Framework states, “There is a lack of evidence that widespread screening reduces STI prevalence and harm.” What is the latest advice on getting screened, and what has changed or is changing in the approach following the publication of the STI Prioritisation Framew

3 Sept 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1249)

It is interesting what you say about stopping asymptomatic testing for gonorrhoea and syphilis for people who are on PrEP.

3 Sept 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1249)

Just very quickly, perhaps for Kate or Amanda, you mentioned the resistance of antibiotics to certain strains of gonorrhoea. What does that mean to an individual in the long term if they find themselves with a resistant strain? Do you have any figures on the percentage of people currently catching gonorrhoea who are re

So nothing has changed at the moment, but it is under review?

3 Sept 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 1249)

Concerns have been raised that the current test and treat strategy for chlamydia and gonorrhoea among gay and bisexual men “may be an inappropriate use of resources and doing more harm than good” when it comes to antimicrobial resistance. Are there any plans to change the advice? From what you have said, I do not think

1 Sept 2025 English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill

The right hon. Gentleman has just listed a load of things that the Tories did with devolution. He cannot deny that the reason we need devolution and local government reorganisation is because his Government significantly underfunded local government, which is now on its knees. We therefore have to take action to get lo

31 Aug 2025NEET: Young People

In Southend West and Leigh, I will soon host a youth day, featuring local star of “The Apprentice” Chisola Chitambala, who is now an apprenticeship coach, among other things. Does the Minister agree that early interventions, like this youth day, are really important to prevent young people from becoming another NEET st

31 Aug 2025 Middle East

I thank the Foreign Secretary for his statement and his work on this very important matter. Over the summer I received messages from Fossie, Joseph and Alice, three children from Eastwood Baptist church, among many other messages. They expressed their sadness at the situation in Gaza and wanted my assurance that we are

21 Jul 2025Sir David Amess Summer Adjournment

It is not lost on me that I have huge shoes to fill in this place, as I stand here representing the constituency that was Sir David Amess’s. I send my thoughts to his wife Lady Julia and all the family, and I hope that we can find a way to give them the answers that they need. This is my second year of contributing to

20 Jul 2025 Independent Water Commission

I congratulate the Secretary of State and his team on their steadfast commitment to cleaning up our waterways, and on today’s welcome announcements. My constituents care greatly about cleaning up the scourge of sewage being pumped into our waters—our beautiful estuary—after years of neglect by the Conservative party. I

16 Jul 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 869)

What would it look like, and would it differ between lower and higher-risk procedures?

16 Jul 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 869)

I am very conscious of time so a final question for you, David, because we still have a number of others for everybody else: how might stricter training and licensing schemes affect the cost and availability of non-surgical cosmetic procedures?

16 Jul 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 869)

That is interesting. David, should there be a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures in England?

16 Jul 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 869)

Nora, should cosmetic surgery be a recognised specialty within medicine with regulated training and title use and, if so, why?

16 Jul 2025Women and Equalities Committee — Oral Evidence (HC 869)

David, if you could answer this question briefly: what should be the minimum training and education required to perform non-surgical cosmetic procedures?

Following on from that, we heard evidence that there is widespread administration of Botox without prescription. What is the MHRA doing to combat this?
